Benefit 1: Sex reduces stress
Sex helps to reduce stress. This was found in a Scottish study published in Biological Psychology . In the study, 46 participants kept a diary of their sexual activities. This included sex with penetration, sex without penetration and masturbation. The participants were then exposed to stressful situations such as a math test and public speaking. The participants with the least sexual activity showed the highest increases in blood pressure and feelings of stress. The participants who had sex regularly showed the lowest increase in blood pressure . This finding suggests that sex has a stress-reducing effect.
Benefit 2: Sex strengthens your immune system
There is a link between the amount of sex you have and how strong your immune system is. At least that’s what scientists from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania claim. Their research showed that people who have sex regularly (once or twice a week) have higher levels of Immunoglobulin A (IgA) than people who have sex less often. IgA are antibodies that protect you against bacteria and viruses. However, this does not mean that the more sex you have, the stronger your immune system is. The people who had sex more than three times a week, on the other hand, had a lower IgA level than the people who had sex once or twice a week.
Benefit 3: Sex improves the condition of the heart and blood vessels in men
During sexual activity, the heart rate accelerates and blood flows faster through the blood vessels. Just like with sports, this is good for the heart and blood vessels and thus lowers the risk of having a heart attack. Elderly people may worry that exercising during sex is bad for their heart. But according to English scientists, these concerns are not necessary. They followed 914 men for more than twenty years and found that a heart attack was not a result of sex. The opposite turned out to be true. The risk of having a heart attack was reduced by half with sex twice a week, compared with men who had sex less than once a month.
Benefit 4: Sex soothes pain
Through sex, your body produces the hormone oxytocin (also known as the cuddle hormone). This hormone creates a feeling of trust, attachment and connection. During childbirth, women make extra oxytocin, so that they become more attached to their child. Oxytocin then stimulates the production of endorphins : also known as the happiness hormone. This hormone acts as a natural pain reliever. It is therefore possible that after sex you suffer less from your headache , menstrual complaints or muscle pain .
Benefit 5: Sex reduces the risk of prostate cancer
According to Australian scientists, regular ejaculation (ejaculation) would reduce the risk of prostate cancer. This they wrote in the British Journal of Urology International. Men who had five or more ejaculations per week in their twenties reduced their chances of developing prostate cancer later by a third. Another study found that older men also benefit from regular ejaculation. Older men who ejaculated 21 or more times per month were less likely to develop prostate cancer than men who ejaculated four to seven times per month.
Benefit 6: Sex helps women against incontinence
Women train the pelvic floor muscles through sex. During the orgasm, they contract and become stronger. Weakening of these muscles, which, among other things, keep the bladder in place, can lead to unintentional leakage of urine. So with a good condition of the pelvic floor muscles, women not only enjoy sex more, but it also reduces the risk of incontinence.
