4 Ways to Get Product Reviews on Amazon

Product Reviews on Amazon

Product reviews have a major influence on the decisions a consumer makes. Almost 90% of the customers say that they allow product reviews to play a part in their decision-making process and 63% of the customers are more inclined to make a purchase from a webshop with product reviews. This is no different on Amazon. Amazon values this even more than the average online store. Amazon has, for example, compiled a ranking of top reviewers. This ranking lists the top 1000 consumers who have posted the most and most

Difference feedback and product reviews

Amazon distinguishes between seller feedback (seller feedback) and product reviews (product reviews). With the seller’s feedback, the consumer can indicate what he thinks of the seller. Was the order delivered on time? Was everything properly packaged? Has the correct product been delivered? Is the customer service good? etc. The product reviews are of course about the product itself.

Seller feedback is especially important if you send the packages to customers yourself. Consumers will look more critically at you as a seller than when amazon delivers the packages. Consumers know from amazon that deliveries are on time and well. They do not know about you as an “unknown” seller who sends the packages yourself. A lot of good feedback helps.

If you are using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) chances are the feedback is very good as amazon does the shipping and customer service. If someone posts negative feedback and it has to do with shipping or customer service, you can have it removed.

The seller feedback is also not unimportant for FBA sellers. This score also has a small effect on your position in the organic search results.

You can find the seller feedback of a shop by clicking on the seller in a product listing.

Product reviews

When you sell your own products, product reviews are of course crucial. You can’t piggyback on a well-known brand name. People don’t know your brand and therefore value good reviews more. However, getting product reviews is not that easy. Below I give you four ways to get product reviews.

1) Discount code sites

Giving away products or offering them at a high discount in exchange for an honest review was a method that was widely used in Europe. Did it work very simply? There are special Facebook groups and discount sites where you can post your offer. Consumers can indicate that they want to receive your product with a discount, after which you email them a discount code. After purchase, they will normally post a review. Offering the product with a high discount is still allowed. However, since October 2016 you are no longer allowed to do this in exchange for a review. Research showed that these reviews were on average higher than “real” reviews. Yet you will see that this way still produces some reviews because the people on those sites are used to posting reviews.

2) Top reviewers list

This way works basically the same as the way above. You email a few top reviewers if they want to receive your product for free in exchange for an honest review. The advantage of this way is that Amazon values the opinion of this group more and puts the review at the top of the review page. Consumers also value the reviews of these people more.

3) Friends/acquaintances

The easiest way to get some product reviews is through friends/family/acquaintances. However, this is against Amazon’s terms of service. Nevertheless, many sellers use this method. Especially if they are just starting and would like to have those first few reviews.

How does it work?

Have them buy the product on Amazon and ask them to write a product review. After purchasing you refund the purchase amount and ask them to write an honest review. Another way is to give them a discount code that allows them to buy the product on Amazon for free.

4) Follow up mails

This is the best, but certainly not the fastest, way to get reviews. How does it work? X number of days after the purchase you send a (number) email (s) to the customer to receive seller feedback and/or product reviews.

Various tools on the market fully automate this process. You decide when what and how often you want to email the customer after purchase and the software puts all this on autopilot. The advantage is that you do not have to give away discounts and that amazon much prefers to see these reviews than the reviews obtained with discount codes.

Good software is feedback five.

If you use another way to collect reviews, share them with everyone and add them in the comment box below.
