The Link Building Strategy For Faster Top Positions With Fewer Links

Link Building Strategy

A good link-building strategy ensures that you get the most out of the number of inbound links you have with your website (or will obtain if you have not yet worked on it). Link building is a much-discussed topic in the SEO industry, but there is still little information to be found about what really is a good strategy!

The link-building strategy we use for our own websites and customers is based on the major brands that have been doing well in Google for years. Some websites have been getting many free website visitors for years and survive every Google Update.

Good on-page SEO is of course important. Without that aspect, it becomes difficult for almost any website to score well on competing keywords. No matter how well your search engine optimization works.

But how do those companies handle link building? Do they work with a fixed link-building strategy or is it automatic?

In this article, the Link Building Strategy works. Explained on the basis of 3 parts!

First this: link building strategy in 3 frequently asked questions

Before we explain this link-building strategy for you, first briefly a little more about what a link-building strategy actually is. We do this on the basis of three frequently asked questions.

❓ What is a link-building strategy?

A link-building strategy is a targeted method to improve the visibility of your website in Google by means of links. For Google, links are a sign of the reliability of your website and therefore a reason to display it higher.

🤔 Why is a link-building strategy important?

You may have been able to buy a fair amount of backlinks from Asia in the past, but Google is now too smart to be fooled with that. A good strategy to collect good quality backlinks is therefore important. With the strategy below you can also use it as efficiently as possible!

💪 How do you apply a link-building strategy effectively?

An efficient way of link building ensures that every backlink that you get will benefit your website in the most efficient way possible. That’s why the strategy we describe on this page is so effective!

What is link building in 2020?

Link building is a lot more complicated in 2020 than it was a few years ago. The art of getting quality links to your website is to show Google that your website is worth ranking. You could see every backlink obtained as a vote for the credibility of your site.

You would expect it to be easier than ever to get links, with the millions of websites now online.

And getting links isn’t the hard part of link building either. The trick is to get the right links where the shoe pinches.

It once worked, for example, to buy a large number of links to your pages. Swapping links between websites also worked fine. You probably know the “interesting links” pages that some websites still have. That was purely for swapping links with the sites they point to. “You link to me, then I link to you.” In other words, quantity above quality.

It is now without a doubt quality over quantity. Buying large amounts of links no longer affects your rankings. There are even experts who believe that it can negatively affect your rankings because of black hat SEO.

One link from a website with authority – especially if that is an authority in your market – is now worth more than thousands of links from obscure websites from abroad.

Link building in 2020 therefore mainly means looking for really valuable links and then allowing them to benefit the authority of your own site as efficiently as possible.

The link-building strategy that we explain for you below will certainly contribute to this.

The Link Building Strategy explained with examples

The link building strategy that I like to use and works well consists of 3 parts:

  1. Google must see your website as a real brand (branding)
  2. Use ‘top pages’ for the main keywords
  3. Use the SEO value of the ‘top pages’ to rank with the rest of the website.

This proven strategy has led us to top positions and free website visitors in the most competitive markets out there.

To give you more information, I have worked out each part for you below.

Part 1: Google should see your website as a real brand (branding)

The most important aspect of this link-building strategy is that Google will see your website as a real company’s site. A fire.

Google likes brands and websites with authority. This is because they get their links ‘naturally’.

Whether this is due to good marketing, PR, online advertising, or fans writing an article about the brand. A ‘brand’ has no trouble getting good backlinks.

This is the reason that Google trusts brands.

Well-known brands and websites that get their links naturally will rarely suffer from Google Updates and have top positions in the search results!

It is striking that every homepage almost only receives links with ‘branding anchor texts’. So no sale-related anchor texts. They do not target specific keywords on the homepage.

They pass on the high SEO value of the homepage to the rest of the website by means of a good internal link structure. This ensures good positions in Google.

It is precisely for this reason that we use this tactic for our own websites and you should (in my opinion) use it too!

Part 2: Use “top pages” for the most important keywords

Part 2 of this link-building strategy is to use top pages. With a top page, I mean a page with super content and many backlinks.

A page that has a lot of value in the eyes of Google and is valuable to the reader.

How do you choose what a top page should be about?

First, you write a top page for an important keyword. Make sure that this keyword is properly reflected on the page. Include this in the title of the page and make sure that the content on that page matches the keyword well.

The goal is that visitors read the text and stay on your website!

If the page is online you will ensure that it receives incoming links, which gives the page more authority. You will also see that the page rises well in Google. That way you work towards top positions.

What percentage of backlinks with the keyword in the anchor text can you keep for these top pages?

Because these pages are written purely for a keyword – and this is also logical in the eyes of Google – we can use keyword anchor texts here. It is not surprising to maintain a percentage between 55% and 75%. Of course, you have to vary the anchor texts within those percentages. It is not natural to only have backlinks to a page with only a few different anchor texts.

Here you can clearly see the keywords that Moz.com focuses on. ‘Tracker’, ‘Checker’ and ‘Ranktracker’. This is not surprising because it makes perfect sense to show in the anchor text where you are linking to.

However, it is good to keep as a target that you get at least 4 times as many links to the homepage as to a top page. That way we keep everything ‘natural’ in Google’s eyes.

Part 3: Use the SEO value of the ‘top pages’ for the rest of the website

In this link-building strategy, we make sure that we get good inbound links to the homepage and to the top pages. However, the top pages have an additional function: passing on SEO value to the underlying pages of the website.

Because we have many incoming links with the homepage and top pages. Are those pages of high value in the eyes of Google. The value that we can pass on to underlying pages.

Consider, for example, product pages, categories, and other important pages within your website.

Because we make good use of that SEO value, we immediately improve the findability of the underlying pages.

The great thing is that we don’t have to build links to those underlying pages themselves. This way we can keep the focus on the top pages. This is good because with the top pages we focus on the most important keywords. Keywords that will generate a lot of free traffic for us (in the future).

How future-proof is this link-building strategy?

Google will continue to provide updates in the future. The advantage of a good link-building strategy is that your website will not be hit in the future if an update takes place. You also have a grip and you focus on improving your website.

In addition, this way of working is, in my opinion, a natural way of building your link profile. Google will appreciate this now and in the future.

Link-building tip for a top link profile!

We are a fan of the SeoJet tool for eliminating the thought process in link building. This tool gives you the option to administer your link building and also shows you to which page a link is needed next.

Outsource link building?

Finally, something about outsourcing your link building. Because I can well imagine that after reading this article you have come to the conclusion that you prefer to outsource your link building to a professional.

We previously wrote an extensive article about outsourcing search engine optimization. There you will find a large number of tips for finding the right party to outsource.

Preferably choose a reputable online marketing agency, because they usually have the best network and the best experts. In addition, they treat link building as part of your overall SEO strategy. Be careful of companies and freelancers who are solely concerned with building links to your website. There is a good chance that this link building strategy will not turn out to be future-proof 😉
