What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized test and measures the English language skills of people who want to study or work in countries where English is used to communicate.
How is the IELTS test structured?
The IELTS exam can be taken in two different versions: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.
What is the difference between IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training?
IELTS Academic is for people who want to apply for higher education, for example, students who want to study at a university in a country where they speak English.
IELTS General Training is for anyone who needs to be able to demonstrate their English language skills when moving to, for example, Australia, Canada, or the UK. In addition, IELTS General Training is often used as evidence in applications and training programs.
Both versions require the following skills:
- Listening (30 min)
- Reading (60 min)
- Writing (60 min)
- Speak (10-15 min)
The first three skills (listening, reading, and writing) must be completed in one day. A separate appointment with an examiner can be made for the speaking test, but this should not take more than 7 days.
How will I be assessed?
The IELTS results are very simple and easy to understand. You can achieve a score from 1 (lowest value) to 9 (highest value).
The IELTS results are published 13 days after the exam.
Where and when can I take an IELTS exam?
The IELTS exam can be taken in more than 1200 locations around the world.
In Belgium, it is only possible to take the exam in Brussels.
In the Netherlands, you can take the exam at different locations.
IELTS abroad
The IELTS can also be taken in various language schools abroad. In addition, several tour operators offer special language trips to English-speaking countries where IELTS certificates can be obtained.
How much does the IELTS exam cost?
